A man found a cocoon of a butterfly. One day asmall opening appeared. He sat and watched thebutterfly for several hours as it struggled to force itsbody through that little hole. Then it seemed to stopmaking any progress. It appeared as if it had gottenas far as it could, and it could go no further. So theman decided to help the butterfly. He took a pair ofscissors and snipped off the remaining bit of thecocoon. The butterfly then emerged easily. But ithad a swollen body and small, shriveled wings. Theman continued to watch the butterfly because heexpected that, at any moment, the wings wouldenlarge and expand to be able to supported the body,which would contract in time.
Neither happened! In fact, the butterfly spent the restof its crawing around with a swollen body andshriveled wings. It never was able to fly. What theman, in his kindness and haste, did not understandwas that the restricting cocoon and the strugglerequired for the butterfly to get through the tinyopening were God’s way of forcing fluid from thebody of the butterfly into its wings so that it wouldbe ready for flight once it achieved its freedom fromthe cocoon.
